Many different Plasma Diagnostic techniques have been developed to measure the large range of different plasma parameters. Passive diagnostic techniques observe particles or radiation emitted by the plasma, while active diagnostics are based on actively probing the plasma by a particle or an electromagnetic beams. In very gross lines one can distinguish: probes, magnetic diagnostics, microwave diagnostics, optical diagnostics and spectroscopy, particle diagnostics and fusion product diagnostics.
